27/04/18 - Pop up Rat Cafe

The Edinburgh Dungeon will be opening a rat cafe in collaboration with the NPI over the first weekend in May. This is a really exciting new type of event, and if successful it may be repeated in Edinburgh, and possibly rolled out to other venues across the UK. It's a ticketed event, so book now to avoid disappointment.

28/09/17 - Face your fears with the NPI!

The Blackpool Tower Dungeon launched their Face Your Fears event tonight with a selected group of guests who were able to sample the phobia busting attractions that have been lined up for visitors over the next couple of weeks - one of which is a phobia of rats. The NPI will be running this section, and we hope to open people's eyes, minds, and hearts when they get the chance to meet some friendly rats after their tour of the dungeon.

17/05/2017 - Our rat day went really well last Saturday...

...plenty of visitors dropped in, and we had overwhelmingly positive feedback showing that everyone had learned something from their visit. Comments received since then have supported that, and we are convinced that rats around the whole area are already benefitting. As expected, it was was non-stop in the cuddle corner where those rats had a wonderful time meeting visitors (mostly eager, a few cautious), and our demonstrations and the Q&A session were particularly popular, with standing room only for some.
We can't wait to hold another one! Please get in touch if you'd like to help organise a rat day in your region, or would like to be involved in developing similar events for your preferred pet species.

28/04/2017 - Two weeks to go

There is now only two weeks to go until our rat day. An excited buzz is building on social media and in person, and we are looking forward to getting our message out on local radio stations and in the press leading up to 13th May. Whilst the day is centred on rats, if you are interested in helping the NPI with events for other species, please drop in if you can and get a feel for what an NPI event is like.

22/02/2017 - Notice of Upcoming Event

We will be holding an NPI Rat Day in Meldreth Village Hall (SG8 6LX) on Saturday 13th May 2017. Please put it in your diary, and look out for more information coming soon.

22/02/2017 - Team Expansion

We are now looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our development teams and committee.

We will be forming 9 small teams, each dedicated to one of the following species: rats, mice, hamsters, gerbils, chinchillas, degus, ferrets, rabbits, and guinea pigs.

The teams will be responsible for developing a set of posters and handouts covering all aspects of care for that species, as well as raising the profile of the NPI among owners.

The committee will expand, and other than the chairman will include the following roles:
treasurer (responsible for our finances)
membership secretary (responsible for data relating to our supporters)
social media director (responsible for driving our presence on facebook, twitter, etc.)
publicity officer (responsible for advertising our events)
events secretary (responsible for booking and coordinating our events)
equipment manager (responsible for ensuring our equipment is where it needs to be)
news sheet editor (responsible for compiling and issuing a regular news sheet)
resources editor (responsible for producing finished versions of display posters, handouts, etc.)

If you are passionate about small companion pets receiving the good quality care they deserve, have spare time to dedicate, and would like to volunteer for the NPI, please send an email to chairman.nationalpi@gmail.com and include the following information:
* name and basic location
* list of species you have experience with, and in what capacity (e.g. owner, rescuer, breeder)
* for each of those species, please give your 3 most important pieces of care advice
* the role(s) that you are interested in

Mary Giles
NPI Chairman

The NPI has been somewhat dormant for a while, but is awakening fresh and ready to make a difference this year!
